The Belvedere

The Belvedere is what you see of Chelsea Harbour from the distance. It’s the only tower block in Chelsea Harbour. At 20 storeys, the Belvedere is not particularly tall by modern London standards. With its metallic pagoda roof, it looks like a bigger version of the Bhuddist Pagoda in Battersea Park slightly up-river. The main entrance to the Belvedere is on the side facing into the Marina.

Rows of external metal balconies run right up the centre of each side of the building except on the side overlooking the lock through which boats enter the Marina. Here there’s a spiral staircase running right up the outside of tthe Belvedere in white painted metal. (In fact, they are half spirals and there is a landing at each level.)

The cladding of the tower has a pleasant faded bronze colour. In contrast, the external metal balconies are dark blue, and so are the window frames. There is plenty of window space and the view from the balconies of Belvedere flats must be stunning.

The Belvedere is not entirely a square, since there is a segment taken out of the corner where it turns to face the river itself. The appearance on this side is the same as on the Marina side, with attractively and large balconies running up the full height of the building.
